Detroit Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge is expected to be ready for the start of Spring Training after undergoing surgery on both knees.

The procedure, performed Tuesday by Dr. Stephen Lemos at the Detroit Medical Center, involved the debridement and repair of the patellar tendon in both his left and right knees. Inge was bothered by chronic patellar tendinitis in his knees during the 2009 season.

Inge will be non-weight-bearing for the first six weeks of his recovery, as he regains a full range of motion. After that, he will begin a strengthening and rehabilitation program to prepare for Spring Training and the 2010 season.

In 161 games this past season, Inge hit .230 with a .314 on-base percentage, 27 home runs and 84 runs batted in, and was selected to his first career All- Star team.
