NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Nashville judge will decide whether a jury will see letters and phone calls made by an Illinois truck driver accused of killing at least four women in three states.

Bruce Mendenhall, a truck driver from Albion, Ill., is charged with killing two women in Tennessee, one in Indianapolis and one in Birmingham, Ala.

He was indicted in August 2008 for allegedly trying to hire inmates to kill police officers and witnesses and is scheduled for trial on Nov. 16 in Nashville on the solicitation of murder charges.

During a pretrial hearing on Friday, the Tennessean reported that prosecutors claimed that hundreds of letters and phone calls he made show that he was talking about his need for an alibi.
