WEST MEMPHIS, AR – A tour bus carrying rappers is stopped in West Memphis, not by crazed fans, but by task force officers. Eight people now face felony drug charges including two men who occasionally perform with the Wu Tang Clan rap group.
Investigators seized more than $8,000, 110 grams of ecstasy tablets and marijuana that was scattered throughout the bus. Captain Donald Oakes tells myEyewitnessNews.com the odor was very strong as officers approached the bus. “When the officer approached the bus, it was like a Cheech and Chong movie. He smelled the odor and at that point he knew.” The two most notable arrests include rappers DJ Mathematics and Streetlife. The two have performed with the Wu Tang Clan on numerous occasions. Oakes says their arrest does not send a positive message to young people. “What does it tell our kids? It says hey, this guy whose album you bought, it’s okay for him to ride down the street and smoke marijuana. Well this arrest proves it’s not.”
The tour bus was pulled over as the West Memphis Drug Interdiction Task Force patrolled Interstate 40, a well known highway for drug trafficking. In addition to drugs, investigators say one of the men had a Department of Homeland Security Badge. FBI Officials have now stepped in to figure out if the badge is real and if so, how he got it. All eight men posted bail November 10, 2009, but they are scheduled to be in court November 13th in Crittenden County, Arkansas. The driver of the tour bus was cited for speeding, but later released.
