NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Tennessee woman who was shot when she threatened to kill her 3 year-old son during a standoff with police has been released from prison.
Karen Lovell was serving time for stalking and harassment in the DeKalb County jail in 2003 when she escaped in a deputy's car and stole his gun.
Lovell kidnapped her son, Kaden, and held a gun to his head, threatening to shoot him. A deputy shot her in the head. The child was not injured.
Lovell, who lost an eye, was sentenced to 18 years in prison. She got out on Wednesday and told WTVF-TV that she is going to leave her son, now 9 years-old, in the custody of her sister while she gets her life sorted out.
