The following is a news release issued by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office:SHELBY COUNTY, TN -- Sheriff’s detectives say a man broke into a home near Millington early today, Wednesday, June 17, 2009, and shot two acquaintances. A woman died at the scene and a man remains in the hospital. The shooter then committed suicide before Deputies could take him into custody.
About 3:30 this morning, Deputies received a 9-1-1 call from Scotty Uselton, 39, of Millington, who was visiting Lisa Joyner, 41, who resided at 3947 Charles Bartlett Road. Uselton told investigators Victor Turosky, 71, of north Shelby County, entered a side door of the home armed with a pistol.
Turosky shot Joyner and then went to a bedroom where he shot Uselton. He was taken to the Regional Medical Center and remains in stable condition.
Within minutes of the shooting, Deputies went to Turosky’s home at 7822 Deer Lake Drive in the Shelby Forest area. As officers arrived, they heard a gunshot from the woods near the home. The Sheriff’s SWAT Team and Dog Squad soon arrived and after failing to establish contact with Turosky, they entered the woods. Deputies found him dead of a gunshot wound. A shotgun was near his body.
Deputies say Turosky and the other two victims had been drinking before their confrontation. Only a couple of hours before the shootings, Turosky had been released from the Millington Jail. Millington officers arrested him yesterday, Tuesday, June 16, for Driving Under the Influence and Reckless Driving.
