MEDON, Tenn. (AP) -- A western Tennessee couple has died after what sheriff's officials are calling a murder-suicide in their home.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department says in a release that investigators found the bodies of 69-year-old Mary G. McNatt and her 73-year-old husband, James Owen McNatt around 10:30 p.m. Friday.

The release says Mary McNatt was found with multiple gunshot wounds in her body. Officials say James McNatt died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sheriff David Woolfork said a relative who was at the house at the time of the incident called the police.

Medon Police Chief Rick Staples says Mary McNatt retired from the Jackson Police Department in January after working in the clerical division since November 1976.
