Memphis, TN - Two Memphis women have been charged with TennCare fraud in separate cases.  One of the arrests involves charges stemming from a person getting and using TennCare benefits even though she was not eligible for TennCare.  The other unrelated arrest involves a person using TennCare to pay for a fraudulent prescription for a painkiller.

31 year-old Karen Thomas was arrested on an indictment charging her with one count of theft of property and two counts of TennCare fraud.  The indictment says she knowingly obtained TennCare benefits without the consent of the state.

21 year-old Sasha Beard is charged with one count of TennCare fraud, and one count of attempting to get a controlled substance by forgery.  The indictment says Beard attempted to fill a forged prescription for the painkiller Lortab using her TennCare benefits to pay for it.

Through the Cash for Tips Program established by the Tennessee legislature, state residents can get cash rewards for TennCare fraud tips that lead to convictions.  Anyone can report suspected TennCare fraud by calling 1-800-433-3982 toll-free from anywhere in Tennessee.
