Memphis, TN-- The Memphis Police Department has fired the two officers that were involved in an accidental shooting of a police recruit on August 11, 2009.

35-year-old Melissa Haley and 28-year-old Dexter Craig were terminated for non-compliance with regulations on October 20, 2009.

The incident happened during a demonstration on how to draw a weapon.

Police say while demonstrating that portion of the instruction, Melissa Haley drew a weapon from the holster of another instructor, Dexter Craig. When Haley pulled the gun from the holster, she accidentally fired the gun, which was loaded with a live round. The recruit, Travis Williams, was struck in the wrist.

Officer Haley had been with the police department for 13 years and Craig for 6 years.
