Memphis, TN - Two men have been arrested in connection with several car burglaries in Southaven, MS.
Officers say on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 3:25 a.m., they were called to the Bell Pointe Subdivision in reference to a suspicious car. When officers got there they found a white van abandoned. No one was inside. Officers found out that several cars had been broken into in the neighborhood. Police say all of the cars were unlocked at the time of the thefts. Officers looked for the van owners, but couldn't find them.
Later Friday morning, an officer stopped a man walking on Church Road near Swinnea. The officer says that while talking to the man, he found out that he owned the van. The man, Tony Melton was arrested and taken to the police station.
At about 7:30 a.m. Friday, someone called to report a man walking on Interstate 55 near Hernando. Police went to speak with him and figured out that he may be one of the people behind the car burglaries. Dale White was arrested and taken to the police station.
Detectives from Hernando and Olive Branch have been helping with the investigation and say the two men could be charged for burglaries in those towns as well. More people could soon be arrested.
25 year-old Tony Melton has been charged with auto burglary and conspiracy to commit a felony. His bond was set at $20,000.
21 year-old Dale White from Senatobia has also be charged with one count of auto burglary and conspiracy to commit a felony. His bond was set at $20,000.
