Corinth, MS - Tornado siren installation is set to start Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in Corinth, Mississippi.
Rain may slow the crews down but David Huwe, Corinth's Director of Community Development and Planning, says they will continue to work unless there's thunder. The sirens may be tested this week as they are being installed or shortly thereafter, depending on weather conditions and the availability of eletricity. The sirens will not be tested if there is threatening weather in the area.
The new installations bring Corinth's total number of sirens to seven. They were purchased for $90,606 through a Mississippi Emergency Management Agency hazard mitigation grant. They are activated by the local 911 office when a tornado warning is issued for Alcorn County by the National Weather Service Memphis Forecast Office.
