TIPTON CO., TN--Tipton County deputies have arrested a woman for stealing a stash of guns from her ex-boyfriend.

On November 6, 2009, deputies with the Tipton County Sheriff's Office received a call about the theft of several weapons from a home in the 7000 block of Highway 179 in Covington, Tennessee. The victim told police that the theft happened while he was in court. Detectives developed a suspect in the case as the victim's ex-girlfriend, 36-year-old Melissa Dawn McGuire, who knew he would be in court at that time.

Officials with the Benton County Sheriff's Office notified detectives with the Tipton County Sheriff's Office regarding a tip they had received about a cache of weapons that had been hidden in the woods in rural Benton County. Police recovered 18 long guns, two handguns, a large amount of ammunition and a metal detector. The property was valued at over $10,000.00. Detectives were able to confirm that the recovered items were all taken in the Tipton County theft.

McGuire was arrested and charged with theft of property over $10,000.00. She has been released on a $2500.00 bond and is scheduled to appear in Tipton County General Sessions Court on December 2, 2009.
