MILLINGTON, TN -- Shelby county health leaders expect another wave of H1N1 to hit and they want parents to sign consent forms to get their kids vaccinated.
DeSoto County and Memphis city school students are getting their shots, now it's Shelby County schools turn.
Superintendent John Aitken joined Millington Elementary students to get their H1N1 flu vaccinations. They'll finish vaccinating Millington schools first, then randomly choose others until every school has its turn.
Doctor Kenneth Robinson, the head of the Shelby county health department showed to get his shot as well. Aitken's and Dr. Robinson want to show parents and students there is no reason to be afraid.
Dr. Robinson says, “We hope they overcome their own anxiety or lack of concern about getting the seasonal flu vaccine. This year give consent for their children to be vaccinated. It's very important. It's a very different year and it's a very different virus.”
Dr. Robinson says for whatever reason children are really being affected by this strain and even though there has been a drop off he expects to see another wave. He says, “When they come back to school in early January, we fully expect to see again another up take in the number of h1n1 cases.”
