MEMPHIS, TN – MLGW crews are out restoring power for people who are sitting in the dark after severe weather rolled though the Mid-South Friday and Sunday.
As of 5:50 p.m., June 15, 2009, MLGW says about 29,000 people in Memphis and Shelby County still do not have power. An MLGW spokesperson said crews made significant progress over the weekend. An estimated 131,000 customers lost power when the storm rolled through on Friday evening, June 12, 2009. After working all day and night Saturday, repair crews faced a setback with Sunday’s storm. According to MLGW officials, an additional 10,000 customers lost power.
MLGW spokesperson Chris Stanley was a guest on ABC24 Eyewitness News Midday and addressed concerns that some people have about not seeing crews in their neighborhood. Stanley says some people will never see crews because a power circuit, miles away from the neighborhood, may be the reason for the outage. Once crews fix the circuit, power will be restored to those customers.
Entergy officials say about 500 people are without power in Arkansas. The breakdown of outages by counties is as follows:
- Cross County – 20 customers without power
- Crittenden County – 78 customers without power
- Poinsett – 4 customers without power
- St. Francis – 400 customers without power
Entergy officials say power has been restored to more than 1,700 customers who were still without electricity Monday afternoon.
