WEST MEMPHIS, AR - Investigators say at least two men are targeting elderly women. They’ve struck in at least four Mid-South counties. According to Captain Donald Oakes with the West Memphis Police Department, the first crime took place October 29, 2009 in Midtown Memphis. That’s when the two men snatched the purse of a 91 year-old woman. Since then police say the crooks have targeted women in West Memphis, Marion, Jonesboro and Forrest City, Arkansas. After the men take the purses Investigators say two women try to use the victim’s credit cards. Oakes says investigators are committed to finding the people responsible. “I think they’re cowards and they’re looking for easy targets. They see someone walking out the store that appears to be older and frail and they think we’ll follow them home and take her purse in the driveway and that’s exactly what they’re doing. We’re going to do everything we can to find them and it’s not just us, multiple agencies are working on this.”
No one has been hurt in any of the purse snatchings. If you know anything about these purse snatchings call Crittenden County Crime Stoppers at (870)732 – 4444.
