MEMPHIS, TN— Memphis City Schools needs to purchase more than 200 surveillance cameras. They will be placed at seven schools, because the old cameras aren’t working and need to be replaced.
According to a letter from Superintendent, Kriner Cash, this is a “life safety” issue. In a letter to the school board, Cash said, “The cameras in most cases are inoperable and need to be replaced.” Replacing the cameras will cost $250,000.
Jeanine Finley, whose children attend Memphis City Schools says, “In this day and age you need security cameras, children need to feel safe.”
A spokesperson for the district would not release the names of the schools where cameras need to be installed, citing security reasons.
The cameras will be installed once a vendor is selected.
