MARSHALL COUNTY, MS -- A Mississippi robbery suspect was shot by police Tuesday evening after a high-speed chase and shootout that crossed two counties.
Police say around 5:30 p.m., a Tate County deputy attempted to stop a suspect involved in the armed robbery of a grocery store and a domestic violence call in Wyatt, Mississippi. The suspect led the deputy on a short chase into Marshall County. When the deputy stopped the suspect and exited his patrol car, the suspect rammed his car into the police cruiser, pinning the deputy between the two cars. Once the deputy was able to free himself, the suspect began firing shots. The deputy returned fire, hitting the suspect twice. The deputy and suspect were airlifted to The MED, and they are both expected to be okay.
Police are also investigating a deadly shooting in Tate County that happened shortly before the robbery. Police say the suspect was an acquaintance of the murder victim.
