KENNETT, MO – As the jury in the Heather Ellis case was deliberating, word came that a plea deal had been reached. In exchange for pleading guilty to disturbing the peace and resisting arrest, the assault charges against Ellis were dropped. She will serve four days in jail at a time of her choosing and be on probation for one year. Ellis will also have to pay court costs and take two hours of anger management courses.
Ellis was accused of assaulting police officers in Kennett, Missouri, outside a Walmart there. Police say it happened after fellow customers accused Ellis of cutting in line and then getting verbally abusive. Officers say she assaulted them and resisted arrest. Ellis testified that the officers attacked and abused her.
She could have faced up to 15 years in prison if convicted of the felony charge against her.
