FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- The party's over for fraternity members at the University of Arkansas this semester.

Last week, the University of Arkansas suspended fraternities' social activities for the fall semester after a student attending a party at Phi Delta Theta was hospitalized with alcohol poisoning. The student has since recovered and returned to class.

The university's Greek Life Office suspended the activities in response to the hospitalization and a separate investigation of rape claims a student made against three Arkansas basketball players after a party at the Phi Gamma Delta house.

Parice Bowser, the director of Greek Life, says the school wants to send a strong message to its fraternity and sorority members that such incidents are taken very seriously. She says the school wants to be proactive so it can avoid similar situations in the future.
