Memphis, TN – Memphis Mayor A C Wharton has officially named Matthew C. Pepper as the new Administrator of the City of Memphis Animal Shelter.

Mayor A C Wharton made the announcement on Friday, February 5, 2010.

"We worked to conduct as thorough a search as possible for this position. So I can say with confidence we have chosen a person of superior experience and qualification for the job. And it gives me great, great pleasure to appoint Matthew Pepper to lead the charge in making the City of Memphis Animal Shelter a facility of excellence," said Wharton.

Pepper will leave his current position as director of Caddo Parish Services in Shreveport, LA.

As the director he was responsible for overall operations of Animal Services. Wharton says he has a career and experience in Animal Welfare and Control that spans 13 years.

"In personally reviewing Matthew’s background for this position, I was particularly impressed with his track record of paying attention to the details of Shelter Operations as well as his awareness and insistence that the component parts of every employee's job must be set out with clarity." Wharton said. "He also expressed a wealth of knowledge and experience from an operational and fiscal management perspective."

Mr. Pepper will fill the post effective March 1, 2010.
