MEMPHIS, TN - A Memphis mother says she knows exactly why her 15-year-old son was gunned down and left for dead. She believes he confronted the same man who robbed her the week before.

Wednesday November 4, 2009, Alex Bolar was found shot several times on a baseball field in Frayser. It’s not far from an elementary school and middle school. Alex’s mother Valise spoke only with myEyewitnessNews.com about her son’s murder.

“I’m packing here to leave. I have nowhere to go, but I have to leave. I have to get out of this spot and I am.”

Valise Bolar says the Friday before her son was killed, she was robbed at gunpoint at a nearby convenience store. Alex’s younger brother recognized the accused robber. “And I told him, I said 'Trey don’t worry about it, let the police handle it.' I know he went to confront them about what they did, because he loved his mama.”

Investigators have not said if there is a link between the robbery and the murder, but Valise Bolar is convinced. She says she was robbed of her belongings and later robbed of her son by the same person.

Bolar says she didn’t contact investigators immediately because earlier reports stated the shooting victim was 12-years-old.

“When they said the boy in the park was a 12-year-old, I felt in my gut it was Trey, but said 'naw, it may not be him.'” Bolar works three jobs to support her children. When she got home from work, she says she filed a missing persons report. Bolar says when detectives stopped by her home, they showed her a picture of her dead son.

She wants it known that she is a good mother. “I want them to know that I am a dedicated mom to my children.” Bolar tells myEyewitnessNews.com she’s also dedicated to finding her son’s killer. “I want him to know that what he did was wrong. He didn’t have to take Trey away from here, not like that. And his conscience should be enough for him to turn himself in, cause what he did was wrong and I believe justice will be served.”

A vigil will take place Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Georgian Hills Park, where Alex was killed. It starts at 1:00 p.m. If you have any information that could help investigators make an arrest, call Memphis Police Crime Stoppers at (901)528-CASH (2274).
