MEMPHIS, TN – The Shelby County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed two more heat-related deaths. That makes six so far in 2009. There were only four heat-related deaths in all of 2008.

The latest heat-related deaths happened June 29, 2009. One of the victims was an
89-year-old woman. According to the Medical Examiner’s office she had to box fans, but it was still 87 degrees inside her home. The second victim was a 63-year-old man. There was a window air conditioner in the house, but it was not installed. The temperature inside was 91 degrees.

Experts say you shouldn’t let fans give you a false sense of security. In extreme temperatures fans will just blow hot air. Your best bet is to be in a place with a working air conditioning unit or central air.
