MILLINGTON, TN – Millington police are investigating the death of a 5 year-old boy who was sucked into a drainage pipe.

It happened around 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 5, 2009, in the 8400 block of U.S. Highway 51 North, behind a Walmart store.

Police say 5 year-old Federico Bajaras Jr. was playing with some friends during heavy rains near a retention pond close to his home. According to investigators, someone called 911 after Bajaras went under the water and never resurfaced.

Emergency crews, family and friends searched the area. Bajaras, police say, was found about 200 yards away from the point he was sucked into the drainage pipe.

Paramedics administered CPR on Bajaras. He was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center where he later died.

Millington police say the case is still under investigation.
