MARION, AR --- Crittenden County deputies helped to bust two men accused of using the United States Postal Service to ship and sell steroids.

David Allen Vickers and Jason Black of Texarkana, Arkansas, are behind bars at the Crittenden County jail.  Deputies say the men were caught with more than 1,000 doses of steroids, ready for sale.  Deputies say the drugs could go for $2 to $4 per dose on the street.

In March 2009, a tipster told deputies that Vickers had ordered a large amount of steroid pills and vials from Poland.  The caller said the drugs would be shipped through the United States Postal Service.

Investigators teamed up with the Arkansas Postal Inspector and the International Service Center, or Customs office in New York to track down the package.  It turns out the order had been stuck in Customs since February 2009, but Vickers re-ordered more steroids and they arrived at the Marion Post Office on April 16, 2009.

Four days later, investigators say Vickers and Black made their pick up and that’s when they were locked up.

Both men were charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver.  Investigators say David Vickers is active military and has experience working in the Army mail room.  Vickers was scheduled to serve overseas in May 2009.  Deputies say the Military Police are also looking into this case.

Deputies say Jason Black is currently under federal probation for a case involving $97,000 worth of stolen merchandise.

David Allen Vickers is being held on a $10,000 bond.  Jason Black is under a $50,000 bond at the Crittenden County Jail.
