WEST MEMPHIS, AR - Traffic investigators say the winter weather that blew through the Mid-South this weekend caused a multi-car accident on Interstate 55 that left one person dead.
The wreck happened around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at mile marker 24 near Turrell in Crittenden County.
According to the Arkansas State Police, 19 year-old Erica Coleman of Memphis was driving southbound on I-55 when she lost control and crossed the median hitting another car headed northbound on the interstate.
Troopers say Coleman was ejected from her car and run over by a third car trying to avoid hitting Coleman's car which wound up stopped in the traffic lane.
Investigators described the weather conditions as snowy and sleety at the time of the accident.
They also say Coleman was not wearing her seatbelt. No other injuries were reported.
