MEMPHIS, TN – A teenager is in custody tonight, accused of shooting and killing another teen. Cops say the shooting may be retaliation for a fight at Raleigh-Egypt High School a few days ago.

The shooting happened just after 3:00 p.m. near the intersection of Ridgemont and New Allen.

"When the officers arrived they found a young teenager, male, had been shot,” explained Lt. Col. J. M. Willis with Memphis Police. “He was transported to the Med and he has since expired."

Police have identified the teenager as 18-year-old Levi Brown, a student at Raleigh-Egypt.

"The subject was shot more than once, and we believe it's an escalation from a school fight earlier in the day at Raleigh-Egypt,” Willis said. "We're getting conflicting information. It was a fight -- whether it was today or a couple days ago, we do not know."

Police have taken a teenager into custody, but he has not been charged and investigators have not released his name.

“Our person of interest is also a student,” Willis said.

That news makes the situation all the more shocking to people in the neighborhood.

"This day and time, the way stuff is going right now, it's just devastation, you know, to hear about young people getting killed like that,” said Uzell Williams.

"To me it's like two lives are gone -- the one that's dead and the one that they have in custody,” said Dana Jenkins. “They could've been something. They could've been something."
