Memphis, TN -- I'll give you groceries for your weapons. That's the promise of Memphis pastor Larry Hunter. It's a move the pastor hopes will help to stop the killing in Memphis.

Hunter heads the "Sober House Homeless Shelter," a group known for feeding the needy in the city. Hunter says this time around he's offering free groceries but wants weapons in return. Hunter says, "It makes no difference what kind of weapon you have. If you can hurt, if you can kill; it’s a weapon."

Hunter says anyone can turn in a weapon, no questions asked.

The pastor says, "If one person turns in a weapon, that weapon right there could save a life that night." He says, "My staff will be on board. We'll talk with you, counsel you. We’ll pray with you. We’ll do everything in our power and God's power to turn your life around."

The "Groceries for Weapons" drive will be held on December 31, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. It will be at the "Sober House" headquarters at 2041 South Lauderdale. Pastor Hunter says if any business or church would like to help out and donate, they can call (901) 581-2860. Hunter says you can also make a donation to the "Sober House Homeless Shelter" at any Regions Bank.
