MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis police say a high school student is accused of assaulting his teacher.

It happened at Fairley High School in the 4900 block of Fairley Road, Thursday, September 17, 2009, around 1:41 p.m.

Memphis police say the teacher told officers that she was verbally disciplining the student when he pushed her while trying to leave the classroom. The teacher says she tried to stop the student from leaving when the classroom door was closed on her hand. The student then started hitting the classroom buzzer and yelling at the school secretary, according to police.

Memphis police spokesperson Karen Rudolph says the school staff rushed to the classroom and detained the student. The student was issued a Juvenile Summons and released to a family member, according to police.
