MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis Mayor A C Wharton is trying to figure out just how many Memphis city employees have take-home cars. At last count, more than 200 did. Division directors are now trying to pinpoint who has take-home cars and why.

Shea Flinn is a Memphis City Council member. Flinn says “It is not a good sign. That’s something we should be keeping track of, that’s tax dollars and we have to have a firm grasp of it.”

Flinn suspected too many employees are driving take home cars. Flinn says, “We need to find a more rational way to do this.” He adds ”We need to have a higher standard for who needs a take home car and who does not.”

A spokesperson for Mayor Wharton says the mayor should have information from directors on just who is driving on your dime next week.
