MEMPHIS, TN – Authorities say a man led police on a chase from Tipton County to Millington and was arrested on a DUI charge for the fifth time.
Investigators say the chase started when a Tipton County Sheriff’s Deputy tried to pull over a car for erratic driving on Highway 51 just after midnight, Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Police say at one point during the chase, the driver crossed the center line and was driving the wrong direction on the highway.
Shelby County authorities joined the chase when the man crossed the county line. Investigators say he was finally stopped in Millington and arrested on several charges.
According to police, 35 year-old Matthew Kelly Helm has been arrested four other times on DUI charges in Shelby County, making this arrest his fifth. Helm was also charged with violating the complied consent law, evading arrest, driving left of center of the roadway, driving on a revoked/suspended/canceled license, reckless endangerment, speeding and reckless driving.
