MEMPHIS, TN - Waymon Kinchen was trying to find a house for his friend on Craigslist. He found a house he said would be a great deal. He emailed the lister to get more information. When he called, it was an international number.

The man who listed the property told Kinchen he had moved to Africa. He said if Kinchen wanted to go to the house and check it out, he could. Kinchen never met the lister.

Kinchen says he saw red flags when the guy asked him to wire $950, then he would receive the keys. Kinchen says even though he thought the ad might be a scam, he sent half the money anyway. A month later, Kinchen is still waiting for a response. The phone number he had called has been disconnected.

The Better Business Bureau says you should never wire money to someone out of the area that you have never met. They say you should always walk through the property before giving any money to the person leasing the property. If you questions about who owns the house, go on to the Shelby County Assessor's web site.
