SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- A South Pittsburg man has been charged with fatally shooting a man in the back during an argument over the cost of car parts.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that 18-year-old Jareese (juh-REES') Edwards is being held on a $175,000 bond at the Marion County Jail, charged in the shooting of 42-year-old Steve Orr.
Witnesses told investigators that Orr was working on a car in Edwards' back yard Tuesday when they argued over the cost of brake parts.
Police Chief Dale Higdon said Edwards shot Orr in the back with a .22-caliber pistol. The chief said the homicide is the first in the southeast Tennessee town since the late 1990s.
Edwards has not yet hired a lawyer. A court hearing is set Sept. 22.
