MEMPHIS, TN -- New information about a Memphis bar owner accused of robbing an East Memphis bank.

According to an affidavit, Gregg Drew, owner of the Poplar Lounge, entered the Trust One Bank on International Place Drive around 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2009, wearing a white mask and a wig. He waived a handgun while walking in the lobby and ordered a teller at the counter to open all the drawers and to step back. The affidavit then says Drew removed the money from the drawers and put it into a garbage bag.

Shortly after the robbery, police tracked the stolen money to a home at 5916 Lynnbrier Ave. in East Memphis. They surrounded the home, and were able to contact Drew by phone. Drew told police he did not want to come out and talk. He went on the tell them that his business was in the tubes and that he was going to kill himself, or he would make police kill him. After talking to police for several more hours, Drew surrendered.

During a search of the home, police found a silver handgun, latex gloves, and a black trash bag sitting on a chair. They also found a white mask similar to the one worn in the robbery and money totaling the amount taken in the robbery in the attic of the home.

Drew remains in jail and will appear in court later this week for a bond hearing.
