MEMPHIS, TN-- If you are in the market for a new car, you're in luck.
This weekend around 100 vehicles, jewelry and other valuables will auctioned off to the highest bidder. There is a catch. These items have a history. They were all confiscated by the West Tennessee Drug Task Force.
Perhaps the crown jewel of the auction- or at least the most unusual item- is a semi tractor truck. It was seized during a drug bust.
“Narcotic investigators had an idea of what was going on there, pulled them over and sure enough it was full of dope” says John Roebuck, President of Roebuck Auctions.
Roebuck says there's a story behind all of the items on this lot, including a mobile home which was found to be in nearly brand new condition. It was found to have drugs in it.
Roebuck hopes it can find a new owner this weekend.
“They'll be selling to the highest bidder and they pay cash that day and get the title and take the car with them.”
Roebuck says these types of auctions are held about three times a year. They usually draw a crowd of 500 to 2,000 people.
“We've raised several million dollars over the years of doing this” says Roebuck.
All of that money goes back to the Drug Task Force and Shelby County to continue programs that fight crime.
There will be a limited preview of the auction Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The auction begins at 10:00 Saturday morning. Both are at the Roebuck Auctions lot at 6363 Haley Road in East Memphis.
