JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- A northeast Tennessee deputy says marijuana plants found growing inside a house were the finest he's seen in 14 years with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Lt. Doug Gregg told the Johnson City Press the hydroponic growing operation produced plants that he estimated contained between 20 percent and 35 percent THC -- the substance that gives marijuana its kick. Greg said most field-grown marijuana has 6-12 percent THC.
About 250 plants were found, along with Ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms, LSD and a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
When police went to the house Monday evening with a search warrant, the couple who live there were not home and had not been found by Tuesday night.
Authorities said 44-year-old Paul S. Fields and his wife, 43-year-old Pari K. Fields were persons of interest in the case. The couple previously lived in the Hixson neighborhood of Chattanooga.
