Memphis TN -- Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton may run in the special election that is supposed to replace him.
Sidney Chism, Herenton’s friend and campaign manager, says the mayor is concerned about the number of candidates entering the race. Chism says if there are ten to fifteen candidates, "a 'nobody' could win with just fifteen thousand votes." Chism says that concerns Herenton and because of that, the mayor could toss his name into the race.
Chism says Herenton is also concerned about how Myron Lowery will conduct business. Lowery will become the interim mayor next week, and has brought in a transition team to make the transition smooth.
Lowery isn’t commenting on the speculation. Herenton is also staying quiet.
