NASHVILLE, TN (AP) -- A top adviser to Harold Ford Jr. says the former Memphis congressman is not angling to be considered to fill the U.S. Senate held by Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Ford went to work on Wall Street in New York after narrowly losing the 2006 Tennessee Senate race to Republican Bob Corker. He also has a home in Memphis.
His former senior campaign adviser, Michael Powell, tells The Associated Press that Ford remains a proud Tennessean.
President-elect Barack Obama has made Clinton his nominee for secretary of state. New York Gov. David Paterson will name her successor in the Senate.
