MEMPHIS, TN -- Tommy Turner, former head of the Memphis Police Association, was arrested Tuesday, November 24, 2009. Memphis police officers say Turner was caught stealing from the Costco on Germantown Parkway in Cordova.
Turner was given a misdemeanor citation for theft of property under $500. The ticket says an undercover employee at Costco caught Turner stealing a jacket, shirt and wallet from the store.
Turner was indicted earlier in 2009 for theft of property over $10,000. The district attorney's office says Turner was indicted for stealing money from the Memphis Police Association while he was president. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Turner stole the money between November 2004 and July 2007. Turner was released on $10,000 bond after that arrest. He is scheduled to be back in court for that case in January 2010. Turner could get six years in prison for the MPA money theft.
