Memphis, TN - Fayette County Sheriff's Department investigators say they've discovered a meth lab in a house near Somerville. Officers say they got several tips about a possible lab at 1925 Pittman Road outside of Somerville.
Officers went to the house Tuesday, November 24, 2009 to do what is known as a "knock and talk" to speak with the people inside the house. Officers say as soon as the person opened the door, they could smell a meth lab. Officers say they could also see it from the doorway. Two people were arrested. No children were inside the house.
Deputies say they also found several handguns and long guns inside the house. The West Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force and HazMat cleanup crews were called to help dismantle the lab.
Narcotics officers described the operation as a large lab with large stockpiles of materials used to cook the meth. Sheriff Bobby Riles points out that this is the second meth lab discovered by his department in less than a week.
Barry Fiala and Diana Cowden were arrested at the house for manufacturing controlled substance and promotion of manufacturing meth. Fiala was also charged with possession of a firearm during commission of a felony. Cowden is in jail on a $10,000 bond. Fiala has a $25,000 bond.
No criminal history was found for either.
