MILLINGTON, TN -- Shelby County Deputies are investigating an overnight double shooting that turned deadly. Shelby County Public Information Officer, Steve Shular, says one woman is dead and one man is in stable condition.
Deputies say this happened in a rural area in Millington just before 3:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2009.
Investigators say a woman was found shot to death inside a house at 3947 Charles Bartlett Road. The woman’s boyfriend was also found inside the house with a gunshot wound, according to deputies. He was taken to the MED in stable condition after he was interviewed at the house by investigators.
According to Shelby County Deputies, the boyfriend called police at 3:22 a.m. Wednesday morning and told them that a man had barged into the house and shot both him and his girlfriend.
The victim also told deputies that his girlfriend had been cheating on him with the accused gunman.
Detectives say they received a tip that the shooter was at a home in the 7800 block of Deer Lake. When deputies arrived at the scene they heard a gunshot, investigators said. When authorities searched the area, they found a man dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators are waiting for an official report from the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.
It is unclear at this point if the person found at the second scene had anything to do with the shooting of the man and woman.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of the accused gunman or the name of the deceased woman.
