NESBIT, MS--Deputies in DeSoto County, Mississippi are working the county's first homicide of the year that left a 34-year-old woman dead. Deputies say she was shot by her own stepfather.
The shooting happened just after 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night at a home in the 2200 block of Lester Rd. in Nesbit, Mississippi. 59-year-old Andrew Stokes was arrested and charged with the murder of his stepdaughter Kimberly Fields.
Police say Stokes fired a shotgun at his stepdaughter, striking her in the chest. She died inside the home.
The mother of the victim was home at the time of the shooting, but was not hurt.
Neighbors say they've never been aware of any problems at the home. DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco says his department had never been called to the home and that they were not aware of any problems there either.
