Broken Taillight Leads to Counterfeiting Bust in Downtown Memphis

The following is a news release issued by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office:

MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies found $60,000 worth of counterfeit goods this morning when they stopped a van with a broken taillight.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office ALERT Squad (Area Law Enforcement Retailers Team) were in the downtown area about 9:30 A.M. when they saw the van on Danny Thomas near Beale.

After stopping the vehicle, Deputies noticed it was packed with clothes and other items. ALERT Squad Deputies have special training to detect counterfeit merchandise. They discovered shoes, shirts, belts and other items had fake Nike, Coach and other designer labels.

Oumar Sow, 45, of Memphis, was arrested and charged with Criminal Simulation Over $10,000.
