MEMPHIS, TN - A new candidate is in the race for Memphis mayor, and he admits giving former Mayor Herenton thousands of dollars. Dewey Clark is bail bondsman, but he used to work for former Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell. Campbell went to trial on corruption charges and was convicted of tax evasion. Clark says when he worked for Campbell during the 1990's he gave Herenton $9,000 as a gift.

Clark would not say if the gift was from him or someone else. β€œIt was just a gift.” Clark said.

Clark adds, β€œI was never indicted, they never said I did anything wrong.”

Clark says he wants to become mayor to change government. He wants government to be more transparent and open. He wants to stop the racial division in Memphis and says the next mayor will have to be a servant, not a leader and he will have to listen to community and citizens of Memphis.
