RED BANKS, Miss.- A coroner says a 9 year-old boy was found shot to death around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at his home in Marshall County and authorities are trying to determine if he shot himself and if the shooting was accidental.
Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson says the boy died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, but does not know who was holding the gun. Dickerson says the victim's step-brother, who witnessed the shooting, told authorities the victim shot himself in the chest.
"Something's not adding up totally here. Based on the length of the weapon, the length of the victim's arms and location of the injury. But we are not going to accusatory mode just yet," says Dickerson.
Dickerson says the victim is Darius Finley and that the boy's father and 11 year-old brother were home at the time.
The body was sent to Jackson for an autopsy. Anderson says the shotgun was recovered at the scene.
