MEMPHIS, TN – Three Memphis firefighters were injured while fighting an East Memphis house fire.

It happened in the 5600 block of Walnut Gove, Monday, June 1, 2009 around 9:30 p.m.

According to Memphis fire officials, it took crews about 30 minutes to knock down the flames. Officials say three firefighters were hurt while trying to put out the fire. One firefighter was taken to The MED to be treated for second degree burns to his right hand. Two other firefighters were taken to Baptist East Hospital. One firefighter hurt is shoulder and the other had an injured wrist. Officials say both those firefighters were treated and released from the hospital.

Investigators say the fire most likely started in the storage room of the carport, but the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Fire officials say there was no working smoke detector in the home.
