MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis police say a 17-year-old received several tickets for a crash that killed one teen and injured another.

Memphis Deputy Chief Joe Scott says the 17-year-old Winston Miller was cited for No Driver’s License, Driver’s License Restrictions Violations, Failure to Maintain Proper Control and Faulty Equipment (related to tire ware).

The teens were involved in a deadly crash that happened Tuesday, September 15, 2009 on Walnut Grove Road, between Humphries Blvd and Farm Road, around 3:00 p.m. Memphis police say 17-year-old Miller was driving an Isuzu Trooper west on Walnut Grove Road when the SUV hit the curb and flipped into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes. According to investigators, the SUV’s windshield hit the front of a Mercedes E-320 driving east. That collision caused the Isuzu Trooper to spin and hit a Ford Explorer head-on, also traveling in the eastbound lanes.

Police say 14-year-old Meredith Fox was riding in the front passenger’s seat of the Isuzu Trooper at the time of the wreck and was pronounced dead at the scene. Rachel Hyneman, 14, was a passenger in the backseat of the SUV. She had to be airlifted to The MED where she remains in critical condition. The driver, 17-year-old Winston Miller was also taken to the hospital in critical condition, but has since been released.

The drivers of the other two vehicles, 62-year-old Lynn S. Heathcott and 42-year-old Valerie R. Millsap, were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
