JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- A 16 year-old West Tennessee girl accused of fatally stabbing a friend has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
District Attorney Hansel McCadams told The Jackson Sun Tera Michelle Carey of Medina was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter.
Carey had been indicted on a charge of second-degree murder in the Jan. 11 stabbing of 15 year-old Laura "Shay" Campbell.
The victim's grandmother said the girls got into an argument at her home in Huntingdon.
Carey's grandmother Virginia Payne has said the two girls got into an argument at her home, began throwing things and the fight escalated.
