TUNICA, MS -- Mid-South casinos aren't taking a gamble on the swine flu.
Last year, more than one million people visited Sam's Town in Tunica, so there's a big potential for the spread of germs but the casino is putting its money on prevention.
An additional 19 hand sanitizers have been put out at Sam's Town Casino for guests to use at restaurants and on the gaming floors. They're proving popular.
“We're having to replace them about every 3 to 4 days in some of the high traffic areas” says Garry Potts, Director of Security at Sam’s Town.
Potts says even before the swine flu hit the Mid-South, Sam's Town had invested in six sanitizers. Now, precautions are being stepped up to keep visitors healthy, as well as those who work there.
“There are signs up in the back of the house hallways stating what to look out for and talking about washing hands, along with some of the common symptoms and what to do” says Potts.
Even on the gaming floor, Potts says things are more toned down. When someone wins big, you're likely to see fewer high five's.
“We're seeing some of the fist bumps, some of the elbow bumps. There is still some hand-shaking going on” Potts says laughing.
Seasonal flu shots were made available to all employees at Sam's Town casino.
