LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - The Arkansas Department of Health says it administered nearly 120,000 seasonal and swine flu vaccines in the first two days of its statewide mass inoculation clinics.
The health department says the total through noon on Friday, October 30, 2009, included more than 102,000 seasonal vaccines and more than 17,000 swine flu vaccines.
The clinics continued on Saturday, October 31st.
At the clinics, the swine flu vaccine is only available to pregnant women, children ages 6 months to 4 years and older children with underlying medical conditions.
Dr. Paul Halverson, state health officer, says the first day of the clinics was successful, despite downpours of rain that drenched most of the state. He says the clinics are one of the state's largest mass vaccination efforts ever.
The health department is also offering swine flu vaccination clinics at all of the state's public schools.
West Memphis just wrapped up its' session. Deputy Superintendent Wesley Berry tells myEyewitnessNews.com that an estimated 1,000 of the district's 6,000 students received the H1N1 vaccine.
School children in Marion, Earle and Turrell are next on the list for vaccinations.
The number of Arkansans who have died from the Swine flu, according to a Health Department spokesperson, is 13. The names, ages and locations of the victims are not being released.
