HERNANDO, Miss. - A 22 year old man has been arrested in last weekend's road rage shooting in Hernando. Police say tip calls helped them capture 22-year-old Jeffrey Bateman of Coldwater, Mississippi. He was arrested Thursday on 3 counts of aggravated assault.
Police say Bateman shot into a car, injuring the driver after getting into altercation with him. It happened late Saturday night on Robinson near Timberlane in Hernando. Investigators say the victim passed Bateman's pickup because it was traveling very slowly. Words were exchanged between the two vehicles.
According to police, Bateman followed the victim's vehicle until it pulled over. He got out of his truck and fired 4 shots into the victim's car, hitting the driver. Two other people in the car were not hurt.
Police say Bateman admitted to shooting into the victim's vehicle. The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed. The victim remains at the Med.
