MEMPHIS, TN – myEyewitnessNews.com has compiled a list of Independence Day events happening in the Mid-South. Sunday, June 28th- Bellevue Baptist Church’s “Starlight Spectacular” begins Sunday, June 28th, at 6:30 p.m., with an old fashioned patriotic picnic on the church’s ball fields. You can either bring your own picnic dinner or buy food right there. The fireworks begin at dark. The event is free and open to the public.
Thursday, July 2nd- The Hernando Picnic and Parades is Thursday, July 2nd. A parade just for children begins at 6:30 p.m. at the town square. The parade lineup begins at 6:00 p.m. Children are invited to decorate their scooters, bicycles or tricycles in red, white and blue. Free refreshments and a movie will follow. The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The movie begins at dusk.
- You can also celebrate the holiday, Thursday, July 2nd in West Memphis, Arkansas. The city’s “Freedom Fest” begins at 7:00 p.m. with bluegrass music at Tilden Rogers Park on College Boulevard. Fireworks begin at 9:00 p.m.
Friday, July 3rd- Bartlett is celebrating Independence Day on Friday, July 3rd. The celebration will be at the Bobby K. Flaherty Municipal Center at Highway 79 and Appling Road from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. There will be live music, family activities, a car show and food vendors. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.
- Collierville is also celebrating the 4th on July 3rd. The festivities run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at H.W. Cox Park. The park is located at 350 Powell Road. There will b3e food and beverage vendors in the parking lot. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.
- For the fitness buffs, the 11th Annual Firecracker 5K Run-Walk begins at 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 3rd at the Racquet Club of Memphis. Click here to register for the race.
Saturday, July 4th- Memphis’ annual “Red, White and Blues Celebration” will be held Saturday, July 4th downtown at Tom Lee Park. It begins at 2:00 p.m. with food and music. The fireworks begin at 9:00 p.m.
- You can get a bird’s eye view of the downtown fireworks from the roof of the Peabody Hotel. Ingram Hill will be performing. The party runs from 6:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
- The Germantown Family Forth Celebration features food, music and fireworks. The fun starts at 5:00 p.m. at Municipal Park. Fireworks begin at 9:10 p.m.
- Horn Lake, Mississippi’s “Celebrate Freedom” features a free concert beginning at 7:00 p.m. on July 4th at Latimer Lakes Park Complex. There will also be inflatables, free games, music and food. The fireworks will begin around 9:00 p.m.
- “Celebrate Your Independence” in Olive Branch, Mississippi is also on Saturday at City Park. It begins at 5:00 p.m. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs so you can enjoy the music, food and games. Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m.
- Southaven, Mississippi is celebrating the 4th this year at Snowden Grove Park. Live music begins at 7:00 p.m. The fireworks display will begin at 9:00 p.m.
- The 60th Annual Fourth of July / Independence Day Neighborhood Parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2009 on the east end of Aurora Circle. The parade will proceed west on Aurora to Mimosa Avenue, then east on Mimosa back to Aurora Circle. In celebrating the 60th consecutive year of the parade, we will have a special “Alumni” table set up displaying pictures of the parades from previous years, including some photos from the early years. Everyone is welcome to participate and join in the fun! Swim suits are encouraged for those who want to play in the big “spray” at the end of the parade, thanks to our Fire Station #17.
